Report into Off-Gas Grid Market Should Bring Clarity

UKLPG, the trade association for the LPG industry in the UK, is hoping that recommendations in the report by The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Off-Gas Grid will bring greater clarity to the arket.

The group’s report followed a six month inquiry into energy supplies for people who don’t have access to natural gas. Among its recommendations are a single minister with responsibility for all aspects of the off-gas grid sector; more regulatory oversight in the marketplace to help protect consumers; early access to the Winter Fuel Allowance so that rural households can buy supplies out of peak season and some form of support for vulnerable off-grid customers through greater access to energy efficiency schemes as well as discounts.

Rob Shuttleworth, chief executive of UKLPG, said: “The report tables a number of interesting ideas designed to bring clarity to how the market operates “Certainly, ideas as simple as giving early access to the Winter Fuel Allowance to rural communities, to enable householders to manage their energy costs more effectively, are to be welcomed.

“Having been involved in the initial inquiry, we look forward to being able to participate in further discussions as these recommendations are taken forward,” he added.
