Successful World LP Gas Forum sees launch of landmark report

This year’s World LP Gas Forum, that took place on 1-3 October 2013, brought together more than 3,000 people from the world LP Gas industries to discuss the important role that LP Gas has to play in meeting climate change legislation and reducing carbon emissions.

The role of LP Gas in helping meet the energy needs of the future was a key message of the forum, and the focus of the UKLPG, the trade association for the UK LP Gas industry, which launched its ‘Targeting Carbon Reduction in Off Grid Britain’ report.

The landmark report urges the UK government to ensure that LP Gas plays a key role in future policy in order to meet the nation’s carbon reduction targets in the future.

The document, which is based on independent modelling data completed by Delta Energy & Environment (Delta-EE), was launched through a series of events during the week.

Chief Executive of UKLPG, Rob Shuttleworth said: “The World LPG Forum yielded a number of important discussions on the role of LP Gas. With the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report stressing the impact of climate change, it is more important than ever, as a nation, to reduce our carbon emissions.

“I am pleased that the launch of the report was met by so much enthusiasm and support from key members of the industry. It highlights the significant potential that LP Gas has in solving issues on climate change, as well as helping those in rural communities. As such, it was received positively by the Department of Environment and Climate Change Heat Team and UKLPG will be participating in the department’s discussions on the Heat Policy Strategy from 2015.”

In the coming months, UKLPG will also be meeting with the Chair of the Committee on Climate Change, The Rt. Hon John Gummer, Lord Deben, to discuss the report in detail.

The importance of LP Gas also received a royal approval in HRH, The Princess Royal’s opening speech. In her speech, The Princess Royal emphasised the theme of ‘making a difference in the world’, focusing on the role that LP Gas had to play in reducing pollution, with four million people dying each year due to poor air quality cause by using wood as a fuel for cooking.

HRH also stressed the need for comprehensive technology research and development to make the industry more competitive, whilst also showing encouragement for the sector and the opportunities the industry has to work together to continue its success in the future.

Rob Shuttleworth added: “HRH The Princess Royal’s opening speech provided some thought provoking points about the future of the LP Gas industry and showed real confidence in the role of LP Gas in reducing air pollution.”
