UKLPG’s Major Hazard Site Working Group Holds First Meeting.

On 31st January, in the first meeting of its kind, the UKLPG Major Hazard Sites working group met to discuss issues surrounding industry COMAH sites.

The group, which is an amalgamation between the current LPG Operational and PSPI (Process Safety Performance Indicators) working groups, was well attended by gas supply members and UKLPG would urge any other members in this category to get involved.

The group met to discuss the HSE's BRE response programme. UKLPG's Richard Hakeem delivered a briefing which explained how the HSE are improving their interface with the industry by making it clearer to businesses on what is involved in operating a COMAH site, what it costs, and how businesses can question HSE's activities and charges.

Going forward the Major Hazard Sites group, which will meet twice a year, will aim to:

  • Drive continuous improvement in the safety standards of major hazard sites across the industry.
  • Promote understanding of the HSE's strategic priority & delivery guides to all appropriate UKLPG members.
  • Share best practice and agree on a common approach to resolve any industry issues.
  • Raise awareness of available training courses for personnel involved in process safety.
  • Deliver input into wider hazardous industry safety forums. In particular, ensuring input into the transposition of SEVESO III into domestic regulation.

If you are a UKLPG gas supply member who would like to join the Major Hazard's working group, please email:

In addition, on 23rd January UKLPG's Consumer Facing Matters working group met for the second time. This meeting was equally well attended and boasted a wide representation of UKLPG members.
