Wychavon District Council to help remote communities without mains gas supply

Wychavon District Council is looking to help remote rural communities without a mains gas supply. The council is working with suppliers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), an alternative to mains gas, to arrange discounted bulk purchasing of supplies to parish and town councils.

The aim is to reduce costs for everyone and ensure that people in rural communities have enough supplies to keep their homes heated during fierce cold winters, such as last year’s. To do this the council has arranged a series of meetings LPG suppliers and has invited parish councils to send representatives to see how the arrangement could help the people in their area.

Councillor Paul Middlebrough, leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “Bulk purchasing makes sense for the more rural parish councils in Wychavon, because it will mean their residents can save money. Most importantly it guarantees the resilience of some of our most remote communities when severe winter weather strikes and it is a great way for us to use our powers to work with people in our villages for their advantage.”

Rob Shuttleworth, Chief Executive of UKLPG said “The portability of LPG means it provides an excellent alternative for people living beyond the mains grid.”
