Clesse UK ACO Recall/Exchange Programme - Press Release - 30th July 2009

Clesse Industries announces a product exchange program for its Compact 100, the automatic changeover (ACO) regulator launched last year to replace both its low and high-pressure non-OPSO models.

The new product represents Clesse’s future design evolution in cylinder ACO regulators, having many improvements over previous models, together with cutting edge design. Its reliability and ease of installation have been well received, designed very much for the UK market, continuing with the no compromise on quality policy Clesse offers its customers.

Clesse as part of its constant monitoring policy, from products in use and on return, feed back to the factory information of service issues. Early indications have shown that in certain regions of the world and under certain weather conditions, the product could develop a leak from the changeover head.

ACO product returned to Clesse from South America early this year and subsequently tested revealed a potential problem. Clesse have undertook an investigation, simulating the conditions in which the problem arose. Modifications were then made to the product’s design to resolve the issue and those product manufactured after March 2009 will not require changing.

The new ACO regulator had extensive testing prior to launch last year, through field trials and obligatory prescribed testing under EN13786 and BS3016, but it did not highlight any potential problems.

Clesse have therefore developed new repeatable ageing tests that we intend to use in similar products, making the existing Compact 100 product even more robust.

The product has so far proved extremely reliable in the UK, but Clesse Industries Technical Department advise that this could affect long term life expectancy.

The encouraging news so far is that, to date, we have only seen a handful of leaking ACO regulators in the UK. Many fewer than originally anticipated considering over 8,500 of the units have been installed that were manufactured on or before March 2009 .

This reinforces the fact that, in the UK, good quality LPG and installation standards have contributed to minimising the incidences of product failure.

Nevertheless as responsible manufacturers we are initiating a product exchange program, to ensure distributors, engineers and users of a Clesse ACO product are fully satisfied and assured that they have the best product available in the UK.

Help to identify and register product manufactured during the period to March 2009 or if you are a qualified registered gas installer who has installed this product and would like to participate or need information relating to this then call Clesse (UK) Limited on the ACO exchange information line on 01902 383237, email recall@clesse.co.uk or visit www.clesse.co.uk.
