Pipework Replacement Programme - A Call to Action

The LPG industry has been working closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on a programme for the replacement of metallic pipework at commercial premises in the UK. If you manage an LPG installation at a commercial or industrial premise you should have received a questionnaire about your pipework from your supplier.

Action Required
If you have not already done so, please complete the questionnaire and return it to the address given on the form. If you have not received a letter from your supplier, or if you would prefer to complete the survey online, please go to Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipework survey. (If completing an online survey, please ensure you enter your supplier details and unique reference number.)

Why It Is Important You Respond

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is a safe fuel when stored and used in installations compliant with relevant industry codes of practice and health and safety legislation. However, when it is not the results can be severe.

To reduce the risk of a leak and potential subsequent explosion, the UK LPG industry and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) consider that underground metallic pipework should be replaced with pipework made from materials such as polyethylene (plastic) which won’t corrode.

Replacing buried metallic pipework/fittings at commercial and industrial premises throughout the UK is a major undertaking and therefore needs to be prioritised based on the risk of pipeline that is why it is important your supplier receives your response.

For more information and guidance please contact your supplier directly or go to the HSE website for further information.
